Lender Capital One continues branch growth in Alamo City

The financial services company that made the slogan, "What's in your
wallet?" famous is bringing new meaning to those words in San Antonio. Soon
local residents will be able to put what's in their wallet in more Capital
One bank locations in the Alamo City.
Over the past two months, McLean, Va.-based Capital One Financial Corp. has
opened five new branch locations in San Antonio. Plans are to open more by
the year's end. Capital One spokesman Steven Thorpe declines to reveal the
exact number of locations planned for 2007. He adds, though, that the
company is excited to be in San Antonio because it is "a vibrant and growing
community and Capital One is proud to be a part of it."
"When you look at markets such as San Antonio, you have neighborhoods that
have a definite need for full-service banking," Thorpe says. In addition, he
says Texas as a whole has a great banking market that Capital One would like
to take advantage of.
"We want to build in strategically important areas, places that are
conveniently located and easy to access," Thorpe says. "That's why we looked
... also at Dallas, Austin and Houston." Just two weeks ago, Capital One
opened a branch location at 10803 Bandera Road near Tezel Road, on the
city's North Side.
Capital One also has branches at 8439 State Highway 151 on the city's
Northwest Side, 103 West Quincy (in the city's downtown area) and at 6019 FM
3009 in Schertz. Capital One first entered the San Antonio market in
December 2006, when it opened a branch location at 5706 N.W. Loop 410 on the
city's Northwest Side.
The branches are all full-service locations, which serve commercial,
small-business and individual retail customers. "We currently do not have
the mortgage and investments specialists ... but are looking into it,"
Thorpe says.
