New tech academy launching
Austin Business Journal - February 28, 2007
The Austin Technology Council is launching a new academy focused around science,
math and technology to create the next generation of tech experts.
The academy will serve as an educational resource for cultivating the future
workforce of Central Texas. ATC President Alisha Ring says she envisions a
facility where technology entrepreneurs, business executives and professionals
share their knowledge and mentor middle and high school students in several
different technology disciplines.
Ring plans to announce the academy, called the Center of Innovation Academy, at
the Center of Innovation Conference May 2. The conference will showcase the
latest technology in the automotive, clean energy, digital media, life sciences
and biotechnology, nanotechnology, semiconductor, software and wireless
industries.
"Austin is touted as one of our country's high-tech capitals -- headquarters to
such corporate greats as Dell, Freescale and National Instruments -- but what
really sets us apart is our entrepreneurship and technical sophistication," Ring
says. "We are a city rich with startups and small firms involved in complex
technologies."
ATC is a nonprofit association with the goal of bringing together Austin's
technology sector.
